Out with the old...
July 03, 2023
Well, after a seemingly excessive amount of deliberation, I've finally landed on Silvrback as my blogging platform of choice. My site has gone through a lot of changes throughout the years and at this point, I'm valuing simplicity, minimalism, and efficiency.
So why Silvrback specifically?
- It prioritizes writing. OK, I'm probably aging myself here, but I distinctly remember the early days of blogging (sheesh - decades ago?) when the intended focus was on writing. Since then, the medium has changed and evolved into a variety of sub-formats (e.g. "microblogging"). Those are all awesome in their own right but the hosting platforms have had to evolve to cover a massive amount of use cases (I'm looking at you, wordpress).
- It just works. I can't tell you how many sites/services I reviewed that had interesting and novel ideas but had significant glitches that impacted execution. I need something that delivers on what it claims it can do (which goes back to the whole "less is more" idea).
- My data is my data. Similar to the point above, I came across a variety of services that made it easy to place content/data into the blog platform but not to so easy to remove/export it. Thanks but no thanks -- I want the ability to easily backup and migrate content later if things change.
So yeah, here we are. We'll see how things pan out in the days to come. Fun stuff, for sure! :-)
