Are “classic” games really THAT good?
Warning: this blog post doesn’t really have a point or conclusion. Feel free to consider it the incoherent ramblings of a geeky gamer. =)
Are “classic” games really THAT good? It seems like there should be a simple answer to that question but when I ask myself, the answer eludes me.
This evening I fired up the SNES emulator and played a couple “classic” titles:
- Street Fighter II
- Super Mario World
- Chrono Trigger
In my opinion, these games were among the highlights of 4th generation consoles… but how much of that is based on fact? For that matter, is ANY of it based on fact?
Let me put it another way: Do we hold classic games in high regard because of their design quality? Or simply because we have a wistful affection for the past?
Any/all feedback is welcome. =)
