How To Tether BlackBerry Modem In Windows 7 Via Bluetooth
Every now and then, I’ll forget this procedure so I thought I’d document it. Thankfully Windows 7 makes it dead simple.
- Connect to the blackberry device via bluetooth. Windows 7 should automatically recognize it as a phone/modem. If it doesn’t, you may need to install the latest Blackberry Desktop Manager.
- Once added, open the properties for the modem in Windows. Navigate to the advanced settings. Locate a field for entering “extra initialization commands”.
- Depending on what network you’re using, you’ll need to specify a different access point in the dial-strings. Examples include:
Rogers: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet.com”
Cingular Blue/AT&T: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”wap.cingular”
Cingular Orange: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”ISP.CINGULAR”
UK Vodafone: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet”
SwissCom: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”gprs.swisscom.ch”
T-Mobile NL: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet”,”“,0,0 - Save changes and create a new dial-up connection.
- Leave the username and password section blank (unless your provider requires one).
- Set the phone number to *99#
- Save your changes and you’re done.
Pretty simple right?
